SmartSearch Chips: One Tap Templates That Write Your Messages for You

Chips are preset template buttons that appear in the SmartSearch sidebar after you've selected a contact or started a specific flow. Each chip represents a different message tone or purpose — tap one and it instantly fills your action card with a complete, personalized message.

Here's what makes them different from generic templates:

• Persistent preview: Chips stay visible after you tap them. Tap a different chip and the card content swaps instantly — so you can preview multiple tones before committing.
• Personalized: Chips automatically insert your contact's first name into the message. "Hi Sarah, it was great working with you!" — not "Hi {name}".
• Context-aware: Different flows show different chips. Review requests get review-specific templates. Group chats get group-specific templates. Individual messages get role-aware templates based on your profession.
• Editable: Every chip fills the card's text field — you can always edit before sending. Chips are a starting point, not a straitjacket.

When you tap a messaging button (like "Send a Message", "Send a Thank You", or "Message My Agent") and select a contact, message chips appear in the sidebar.

Individual message chips are role-aware — the templates you see depend on your profession. An agent sees different templates than a lender or a title company rep. This ensures every pre-written message sounds natural for your specific role.

Common message chip categories include:

• Thank You — Professional gratitude messages
• Follow Up — Post-meeting or post-service check-ins
• Check In — Casual "how's it going" messages
• Referral Ask — Polite requests for referrals
• Market Update — Share current market conditions
• Happy Holidays — Seasonal greetings
• Anniversary — Home purchase anniversary messages

Like review chips, each message chip personalizes with the contact's first name using the {name} placeholder. If you've set up custom message templates in your settings, those appear alongside the built-in chips — giving you a fully personalized library of one-tap messages.

When you tap a website-related action (like "Edit My Website" or "Update My Hero"), you first select a site from the sidebar. The site gets assigned to your card without navigating away — then 8 section chips appear so you can quickly jump between sections to edit.

Section chips stay persistent after you tap one — so you can switch between Hero, Bio, Services, and any other section without restarting the flow. Each tap swaps the section editor card instantly. This makes editing a multi-section website feel like flipping through tabs.

Logging a maintenance record with PropDoctor uses a guided 5-step chip flow. Each step has its own sidebar chips so you can fill the entire card without typing a single word.

Step 1 — Repair Type: HVAC, Plumber, Electrician, Roofer, Painter, Landscaper, or General Contractor.

Step 2 — Job Description: Each category has 7 specific job types. For example, HVAC shows: Furnace, AC Install, Duct Clean, Thermostat, Heat Pump, Filter, and Recharge. Plumber shows: Pipe Repair, Water Heater, Drain Clean, Faucet, Toilet, Sump Pump, and Disposal. Every category has a "Custom" option for unlisted jobs.

Step 3 — Condition Rating: A job-specific 5-point scale with contextual labels. "Pipe Repair" shows: Burst/Major flood (1-2), Active leak/Corroded (3-4), Slow leak/Seeping (5-6), Minor drip (7-8), Solid/No leaks (9-10). Each of the 49 job types has its own custom scale — 245 unique condition descriptions in total.

Step 4 — Cost: 7 preset amounts: $100, $250, $500, $1K, $2.5K, $5K, $10K — plus a custom input for exact amounts.

Step 5 — Warranty: 8 preset durations: 30 Days, 90 Days, 6 Months, 1 Year, 2 Years, 5 Years, 10 Years, and Lifetime. Or "No Warranty" to skip.

Every chip category supports custom templates that you create in your settings. Your custom templates appear alongside the built-in chips, so you can build a library of one-tap messages specific to your business.

To add custom message or note templates:

1. Go to Settings → Templates
2. Add a new message or note template with a label and body text
3. Use {name} as a placeholder — it gets replaced with the contact's first name automatically
4. Your template appears as a chip in the sidebar whenever the relevant flow is active

Custom templates let you create reusable messages for specific situations: listing updates, open house invites, price change notifications, seasonal greetings — anything you send regularly.
