Unplug the dryer and turn off the gas

Go outside and check the vent hood flap. Remove any lint, debris, or bird nests. Make sure the flap opens freely when air flows through.

Inspect the flexible duct for damage
Check the flexible transition hose for tears, kinks, or crushed sections. Replace foil or plastic ducts with rigid or semi-rigid metal duct, which is safer and collects less lint.

Reconnect and test
Reattach the vent hose to the dryer, tighten the clamp, and push the dryer back into position. Plug it back in (and reopen the gas valve), then run the dryer on air-only for five minutes to blow out remaining debris.
